For many years, Facebook has had the option of automatic face recognition, which could be turned on in the account settings. After it was turned on, the platform using machine learning techniques automatically tagged people in the photos, at the same time sending them a notification about the tag on the photo. Unexpectedly, however, this feature was removed from Facebook by the producers.

The tagging of people in the photo itself will still be available on the platform, but it will no longer work automatically. Facebook announced that over a billion templates that were used to recognize user accounts in photos will be removed from the archives. As we can read in the company's official announcement, this is a decision dictated by concerns about, among other things, social problems that the automatic facial recognition function deepened, especially in the case of mistakes. However, the Meta company still sees the potential in the operation of artificial intelligence and automatic face recognition. According to the management of the company, this technology will be extremely useful all the time, especially when we will have to confirm our identity or it will help also to prevent frauds.
