A lawsuit against Meta has been pending in Ireland for several months. It concerned a violation of the privacy of users using Facebook. In 2021, there was a data breach of 533 million people who were Facebook users between 2018 and 2019. Information about, among others, our location, but also date of birth or phone numbers were exposed to the leak. Ultimately, as a result of the case, it was decided to impose a financial penalty on Meta.

According to the data protection commission in Ireland, Meta was fined 265 million of dollars. The penalty could have been even higher, but during the trial, Meta worked with the Irish security authorities to complete the trial, and in addition the company has already made modifications to the website in recent months to strengthen the security of its clients' data, which ultimately reduced the potential penalty for Meta resulting from the entire investigation.
