YouTube Go debuted in 2016. It is practically the lite version of the main YouTube application, devoid of a few side functions such as adding content, comments or using a dark theme. In practice, the use of the YouTube Go application was limited to playing videos, but this version was mainly designed for smartphones with weaker specifications. Soon, however, this application will disappear from the market.
According to the YouTube team, further expanding the YouTube Go project was pointless. Instead, the company wants to focus on improving the performance of YouTube's main application in terms of reducing the amount of mobile data used, among other things. It is also impossible to ignore the aspect of the phone specifications, which has improved significantly over the last few years and even mid-range phones support the most popular applications in a smooth manner without any problems. Existing YouTube Go users are advised to change the used application to the main YouTube application, or it is also possible to play recordings directly from YouTube by using any web browser.
