Apple has been considering various scenarios for implementing 5G modems for its phones for several months. A company from California considered even creating its own modems, but the company's management decided that the best solution would be to use ready-made units produced by another manufacturer. Apple immediately started negotiations with companies such as Qualcomm and Samsung, but to the surprise of observers, the talks ended in a fiasco.
We could expect that the talks between Qualcomm and Apple will be difficult due to the conflict between companies, but Samsung's resignation from cooperation is surprising. The reason for refusal is the insufficient supply of manufactured 5G Exynos 5100 modems. The only possible source for delivery of 5G modems for Apple is Intel, whose unit named XMM 8160 should be ready in 2020. This means that the real date of the release of iPhone supporting 5G is 2021.
