Facebook's cases have repeatedly been brought to courts for various reasons, mainly because of violating users' privacy. Of course, the most recognizable case is the Cambridge Analytica affair, but there are also many smaller cases in the courts. One of them is the matter of marking users in photos. Today, decisions were taken to terminate this court proceeding which has been analyzed for several years.
The scandal began in 2015 when Facebook was sued by a group of users from Illinois. In their opinion, Facebook illegally introduced in 2010 function of suggesting which users are in the photo by using face recognition. The feature was added without first informing users about owners' plans and without granting permission for it to be added from users of the site. Finally Facebook reached a settlement with people who filed the lawsuit. According to the settlement, Facebook is going to pay the victims 550 million of dollars.
