Initially, Samsung was against union formation within the company. Ultimately, however, this position changed, giving individual employees more rights. This decision caused workers to strike inside Samsung for the first time in history. The employees of the display production department are responsible for the start of the strike.
It is worth noting that this is not the first time that Samsung Display is creating the company's history. In the past, this department was responsible for the first use of foldable screens, and this time it is the first department to go on strike. This decision results from the failure of talks with the company's management on guaranteeing pay rises for employees. The company has offered employees a 4.5 percent increase in their wages, while employees are demanding an increase of 6.8 percent of their wages. So far, 40 people out of all 2400 employees in the Display department are taking part in the strike, but it is very possible that more people will join the strike. Last month, a poll was conducted among Samsung Display employees, in which as many as 90% of employees supported a possible strike in the event of failure of talks with the company's management.
