It has been said for some time that Google is very much thinking about introducing a new gesture to operate the phone with Android system. We are talking about a double tap on the back panel of the phone. With this gesture, users could trigger one of the specific actions on their device. This feature was previously considered by Google when it appeared in one of the developer versions of Android 11. Ultimately, however, it did not appear in the final version of the system, but this may change with the launch of Android 12.

According to reports, this option is in the Android 12 code under the code name Columbus. According to journalists, Google ultimately did not use this feature in Android 11 due to the fact that the system sometimes accidentally read taps on the back of the phone as intentional. With the launch of Android 12, this would change. However, we do not know if the new feature would come to all phones with Android system, or if it would only be a feature available exclusively on devices from the Pixel series.
