A particularly serious rival for Spotify seems to be Apple Music, which plans to implement a function useful for audiophiles in its application. Apple Music, as announced, is to start offering lossless sound quality in shared recordings.
Apple Music will begin support for lossless sound quality with the update of iOS to version 14.6 and macOS to version 11.4. After this update, users will have the option to play music in 24-bit and 48kHz. Users will be able to set an even higher frequency like 192kHz, but only when they use an external DAC. This type of music can also be played by Apple TV models that support 4K, but interestingly the TV will support the maximum frequency of 48kHz and this value cannot be increased even by using an external converter. It is worth mentioning that all Apple wireless headphones, according to the information published by the company, will not support lossless music quality, i.e. they will still only support music streaming through the use of the AAC codec. At the moment, Apple boasts a library of 75 million songs in lossless quality, but of course this library will be gradually expanded.
