Huawei managers are still in touch with the largest manufacturers of parts for smartphones in case that the company's relations with the US government deteriorate again and sanctions would again hamper the production of devices for the Chinese giant. One of Huawei's emergency plans was the creation of its own Harmony OS system, and the next step is going to be the contract with producer of processors adapted for 5G connection. We are talking about MediaTek.

For MediaTek this will be another contract with a Chinese company, because earlier this producer confirmed cooperation with two other Chinese companies: Oppo and Vivo. Processors supporting 5G are going to be available for other producers from 2020. The first orders are for the unit codenamed MT6885. Everything indicates that Huawei wants to use the processors created by MediaTek in its cheaper phones, and units for flagship devices will be purchased from other sources.
