Although the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor has appeared on the market quite recently, information about the next hardware from this series is slowly appearing on the Internet. According to the latest reports, the unit codenamed SM8550, under which probably holds Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, is to bring a breakthrough solution in terms of audio playback using this processor. It's about using the AV1 codec.
The AV1 codec is supported, among others, by Netflix and YouTube. It is distinguished by efficiency and allows you to send video in high quality, but it is still not fully popularized on the most of popular websites and apps. Qualcomm's decision to support this codec in its upcoming flagship processors will certainly help in the creation of devices supporting the AV1 codec. So far, this codec has been used by processor manufacturers such as MediaTek or Samsung in their latest Exynos 2200. The upcoming flagship processor from Qualcomm supporting AV1 is expected to be released on the market in 2023.
