Microsoft had been a part of the smartphone market for years. The company tried to develop the Windows Phone brand in the hope that it would be able to compete effectively with Apple. The reality turned out to be brutal for Bill Gates' firm, because practically the whole phone market revolves around two systems - Android and iOS. The founder of the company himself believes that Microsoft's poor past in this market has contributed to the loss of a chance for gigantic earnings.
Bill Gates used the phrase that the biggest mistake in his career is poor activity of his company on smartphone market. In his opinion, Microsoft should naturally become what Android is now and it was obligation of his company to turn into the main competitor for iOS. According to Gates, Microsoft could thus increase its revenues by as much as 400 billion of dollars. Despite this, Microsoft has recently become the most valuable company in the world, beating such brands as Apple and Google.
