Already in July of the previous year, information appeared confirming the start of testing the new function on Twitter. It is about adding the downvote button, which is to convey negative opinions about the content available on the website. The official Twitter profile for communication with users has confirmed that this function will soon be available in a stable version of the app, and so far the tests of the downvote button are entering the phase of global tests.
The downvote button will be placed next to the heart icon used to like tweets. We will only be able to use this feature to rate reply to the main tweet in the conversation. Importantly, the portal will not publicly display information proving a negative opinion about a given tweet. They will be hidden, and the information on user feedback itself will mainly be used to analyse the content that users want to see or that they want to omit from their home page. Twitter has already published a preliminary analysis resulting from the beta testing of the new feature. Tests showed that the downvote function was used by users mainly in response to offensive or irrelevant comments in a given conversation.
