Hacking attacks on the Internet are very common. One of the biggest hacks in the history of Twitter has occurred in the last hours, where hackers managed to gain access to the accounts of many celebrities. The victims of the attacks were people such as Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, Kanye West or Kim Kardashian, and these, of course, are not all accounts to which criminals have gained access. Various companies' accounts were also victims, including the official Apple's account.
As part of an organized action, hackers provided a special link from the accounts of celebrities related to the popular bitcoin cryptocurrency. Claiming to be account owners, the hackers mentioned that after the account followers send a specific payment to the account address provided, they will double the payment received, and the entire amount of money will be allocated to the fight against COVID-19. The first estimates show that the hackers managed to extort the amount of about 120 000 of dollars. In response to hacking attacks, Twitter suspended the accounts with the aforementioned links to bitcoin wallets, and finally, after a few hours, they came back to previous state and now they are working properly.
