Gradually, the governments of individual countries around the world are striving to digitize offices and individual spheres of their activity. One of the steps aimed at improving the operation of offices is the creation of electronic identity cards. Over time, citizens' physical ID cards may be replaced by telephones. This option will be available to German citizens who use certain Samsung's smartphones.

As part of the cooperation between the Federal Office for Information Security and Deutsche Telekom Security, it was possible to develop a secure solution that allows the use of an ID card by creating its virtual counterpart in Samsung Galaxy S20 series of phones. This function is going to be safe, as the data related to the electronic ID card will be stored locally in the phone's memory and will not be sent to the Internet, which will allow users to fully control the flow of information.
