For some time now, many application developers have been loudly saying that the fees charged by Apple and Google in exchange for the possibility of placing the application in the App Store or in the Google Play Store are too high. The current rates for both companies are 30% of the transactions concluded, and for smaller creators, 15% of the fees paid by users. A new law that will be in force in South Korea may be a big step towards change.
The President of South Korea, Moon Jae-in, confirmed that his party managed to pass a new law that will release South Korean creators from any fees charged to Apple and Google. The government in South Korea argues the changes by guaranteeing fair competition on the market, but also guaranteeing a fair income for the authors of the applications. According to Apple, the changes introduced introduce unnecessary risk on the part of consumers. The American company points out that this is a step towards reducing the security of data on phones, but also reducing the security of payments and secrecy of contracts concluded between developers and buyers of the application.
