Currently, the top units on the smartphones processor market were produced in the 5nm technological process. Such processors, among others, will be used by Apple in the latest devices from the iPhone 12 series. One of the leaders in the mobile market when it comes to the production of processors, so TSMC has announced its production plans for the coming months. It must be admitted that they sound ambitious.
TSMC currently focuses on the production of 5nm chips, which is quite obvious because firm needs a lot of them. TSMC is the firm that will produce chips that will be used in the iPhone 12, but the company's plans go much further. As announced, in the second half of 2022, TSMC wants to prepare processors in 3nm technological mode. It would be a qualitative leap, and the company still has to prepare the option of creating processors in 4nm mode along the way. This type of production is going to be ready by the fourth quarter of 2021.
