According to the Federal Trade Commission, once again there was a violation of the law by the heads of YouTube. The Commission found evidence for modification of the profiles of children under the age of 13 in order to present them with personalized advertising without the knowledge of parents. The decision on this matter was taken after the vote on Wednesday, during which the committee ruled YouTube's guilt by a 3 to 2 votes. Despite the fact that, according to the owners, the portal is directed at people over 13 years of age they do not escape responsibility and announce changes in the functioning of the site.
We already knew that the financial penalty imposed by the Federal Trade Commission would not exceed 200 million of dollars. A few hours ago a final decision was issued, which orders Google to pay a 170 million dollars fine. 136 million will go directly to the Commission, and 34 million dollars are going to be transferred to the New York. In addition, YouTube itself has begun making changes to avoid similar problems in the future. One of the solutions is the YouTube Kids platform, which is supposed to provide access to safe content for children depending on the child's age threshold set previously by parents.
