Initially, Google promoted its proprietary streaming platform for listening to music, which was Play Music, on smartwatches with the Wear OS system. Some time ago, however, this service was abolished, which left a mark on users of smartwatches equipped with the WearOS system, as it made it difficult for them to access music through the use of their equipment. The watches did not have the option of using the dedicated YouTube Music application. Ultimately, YouTube Music went to smartwatches in the form of a dedicated application for the Galaxy Watch 4 created by Samsung, and in the near future YouTube Music will also be available on older watches that support the WearOS system.
According to the latest information, Google has confirmed that YouTube Music will go to watches with WearOS in version 2.X. Initially, however, the application will only go to selected devices. These will be watches from the Fossil Gen 6 series, and then YouTube Music will be released for the following watches: TicWatch Pro 3 GPS, TicWatch Pro 3 Cellular/LTE and TicWatch E3. Later this year, the application is also to debut on other watches with the WearOS system. The application will be available for download directly via the Google Play Store and it will also support the Smart Downloads function, which after connecting the device to Wi-Fi will automatically update the songs available for listening locally and download them to smartwatch.
