BlackBerry's activity on the mobile market is getting smaller every year. A few years ago, the company regularly released its smartphones with a physical keyboard, while now the company mainly deals with software development. The company still holds attractive patents, and it is BlackBerry's patents that are the subject of a recently announced transaction.

According to official confirmations, BlackBerry's patents were bought by Catapult IP Innovations. The transaction concerns patents used in mobile devices. The agreement indicates that BlackBerry will receive 600 million of dollars in exchange for lending its patents. Immediately, the company will receive 450 million of dollars, and 150 million of dollars will be paid in instalments. Under the agreement, BlackBerry will continue to be licensed to use the loaned patents and the agreement will not affect customers using the company's services. This is another large transaction regarding the sale of BlackBerry's patents, as Huawei bought the rights to use 90 patents from BlackBerry last year.
