Kirin 970 will be a dedicated processor for the new Huawei phones. The company is trying to make their new unit able to compete with processors such as Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 and Samsung Exynos 8895. Huawei plans to use 12 cores in the processor and whole unit will be made in 10nm technology, so this should help in it.
Basing on the newest information we can say that processor probably will enter mass production in September. As we know Kirin 970 will be firstly used in new Huawei's phone named Mate 10, which will be presented in October.
