Sound effects are an important part of movies and series. To improve the experience of watching Netflix recordings, the platform will now support the spatial audio feature. The use of the new function is to make the experience of watching a video on Netflix similar to the effects felt in the cinema during screenings.

Netflix will introduce Ambeo surround sound support to its videos. It is a software developed by Sennheiser and it allows for automatic processing of the received sound into a spatial variant. So it is a different method of getting surround sound than Dolby Atmos. It is worth noting that the surround sound feature will be available on all devices and will be activated automatically where possible. The exception is the mobile version of Netflix, because on smartphones, the spatial sound will turn on automatically only when the recording is played in the best quality. Moreover, the new feature will go to all subscription plans available on the platform. So far, the library of videos supporting surround sound is small. This applies, among others, to The Witcher and the latest, fourth season of the Stranger Things series. To search for all content that supports spatial audio, simply enter "spatial audio" sentence in the Netflix search engine.
