The European Union has confirmed new regulations, through which electronics manufacturers must adapt the inputs in their equipment to unified ports by next year at the latest. In the case of smartphones, it is the USB-C input, which is a problem for Apple, cause Apple has so far used the Lightning input on phones. Apple, however, intends to change it, but in order to provide customers with a guarantee of the quality of the developed solution, the company, according to the latest reports, is also to prepare a special chip.
The task of the mentioned chip is to verify the originality of the components used for charging or other accessories connected via USB-C. Thanks to it, the phone will display a message to the user confirming the authenticity and originality of the accessories used, or the phone will display warnings that the equipment used has not been officially verified by Apple. It is possible that this chip can also lead to slower charging of the phone using unofficial components, but so far these are just press reports.
