With the launch of the Watch 4, Apple introduced a fall detection feature to its devices. Upon detecting a fall, the watch prompts the user to confirm that it is in good condition. If the information that everything is fine is not confirmed, the equipment automatically decides to make an emergency call in order to protect the user's health. A new function for the automatic recognition of car accidents could work in a similar way.
Apple has already started work on an algorithm that will be used to detect collisions on the roads. The company managed to collect information on over 10 million collisions, of which as many as 50 thousand ended with the use of an emergency call. Based on these data, Apple wants to create an accident detection algorithm, and the subsequent operation of electronics would be similar to the function used to detect falls. After detecting a threat, the phone or smartwatch will display a request to confirm whether the user is safe. If so, the watch or the phone will not perform any action, but in the event of a threat and no response to the message during one minute, basic information and the location of a potential accident will be sent via making emergency call. Google has also been adding a similar function to its phones for some time. If Apple decides to add such a feature to its devices, it is very likely that it will happen as part of the release of iOS 16 and watchOS 9.
