A few days ago, on Instagram, a viral information became a rumor indicating that the latest update of the application for iOS made our current location available to other users of the platform without appropriate confirmation from our side. For this reason, many people have decided to revoke their consent to use location by Instagram app. It turns out, however, that the information circulating on the platform was only a rumor, and the company's CEO decided to officially deny it.

Adam Mosseri, Instagram's CEO, explained on Twitter that the application has access to our location only for the purpose of using it for built-in functions, such as marking a place in a photo. This option works in a similar way on iOS and Android, and in this respect nothing has changed with the latest updates. Instagram does not share our location with other users without permission, and the only option to share our current location with others is to share it with the appropriate consent. However, if you do not feel safe, it is still possible to completely disable location sharing in the Instagram application via your phone settings.
