Sony is a thriving company in many industries. Products of this manufacturer are considered one of the best on the market, among others, when it comes to TVs or gaming consoles, but in the aspect of smartphone production firm has many serious competitors. The image of Sony's mobile department has steadily deteriorated since stopping cooperation with Ericsson, but Sony continues to improve its efforts in phone's production. One of the moves to improve company's image is to be restructuring the whole mobile department.
By March 2020, Sony intends to reduce the number of employees from mobile department to 2000 people. Section responsible for production of smartphones will be officially connected with teams creating TV sets, cameras and audio equipment. This solution may cause positive changes in the perception of this department by clients, especially when it comes to reports summarizing the company's financial condition. Sony announced that this decision wasn't caused only by willing of reducing costs, but mainly its purpose is development of smartphones. The Japanese hope that the merger of departments will result in the innovative solutions applied to new phones.
